Lance Armstrong finishes fifth in the XTERRA USA Championships. It is a cross-country-cum-triathlon event consisting of 1.5k swim / 28k mountain bike / 9.8k trail run. See the report here

The triathlon is not an event that is unfamiliar to Lance; he started as a very promising teenager in the USA triathlon circuit, competing against seasoned pros and placing very well, before turning his attention to biking, and the rest is history. He has always kept himself fit, during the period after his initial retirement, and subsequently, his recent retirement. Having said that, this is a unique triathlon event in that it incorporated mountain biking on trails (instead of TT bikes on the roads) and trail running (instead of running of the roads).

Still at 40 years young, to finish 5th in a sport that triathletes train specifically for, is a testament to his fitness and talent, regardless of whatever news of him in the last year or so.

Chapeau, Lance.
