The seasonal flu bug has hit the Lee household hard. I rarely fall ill back in KL but here in this country I have come to expect contracting the flu at least once a year, although the average would be twice a year. This is probably due to the fact that I live and work in a crowded, densely populated area, taking the public transport to work and exposing myself to all manner of germs and infections. That coupled with the fact that I have a daughter of nursery-going age. I have been told that the moment my kids starts going to nursery, she will contract all manner of germs and obviously bring it back to the household. And in our case, it seems likely that it was the case.

It began some 4 weeks ago. The younger one had the flu and just recovered. Then, the elder daughter started coughing. The cough became progressively worse as the days passed, sufficiently bad to warrant 3 visits to the doctor in as many days. She was diagnosed with mild bronchitis. A course of meds did little to improve her cough; the pediatrician decided to prescribe the usage of a nebulizer. The cough progressed to a cold, then a sore throat. Then younger baby fell ill. Again!

It was only in the last week the the already-suffering parents (i.e. me and the missus) were hit. And the kids were difficult to take care of- general malaise, little appetite, constant crying and inability to fall asleep meant that we the parents had little rest and sleep as well.

I am sick of being sick.

Sadly, despite the soon to be concluded episode of sickness, I doubt that this will be the last time. All we can do is to minimise, as far as possible, the inevitable suffering we will have to endure. That would mean eating as healthily as possible, keeping fit and healthy and loading up the vitamins. It will not prevent sickness per se but maybe we will suffer less compared to those who are less diligent with their health.

Have a good week.
