The haze is back in all its glory, thanks to our considerate, wise neighbours who see it fit to utilise the scorched-earth policy. The scorched-earth policy, if you recall, was a tactic used by the Russians during the Second World War in an attempt to quell the advancing Nazis in Russia itself. Because we are afraid to offend our neighbours, either coming up with mere offers to help with the fires or giving mild reproachment to this annual "activity" of their farmers, we should expect this to be an annual occurrence. Maybe I'm being idealistic, naive even, with little understanding of politics and international relations but something truly serious and effective should be done.
The haze of course would prevent most of us from running outside, unless inhaling carbon monoxide (along with all other poison that comes with it) is your cup of tea.
The rain and wind has helped somewhat- I have had the fortune of being able to run outside in the last week and a half, but according to the Singapore Meteorological Service, we should expect the haze to be back again next week.
Over the last week, I have been slowly building up my strength. It is still not the anniversary of my knee op as yet- that will be 21st Sept- so I can't fully extend myself as yet, but at any rate my only pocket of time during the weekdays would be the 45-50 minutes or so after work. The mileage has been like this so far-
Thursday (8th Sept)- 17km ( I had time to run and took full advantage)
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wed, Thurs (9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 Sept)- 5.5km
Friday (9th Sept)- CYCLING, 26km
Saturday (10th Sept)- CYCLING, 26km
I should be able to log in another 5.5km today. This weekend is seemingly busy with doctor's appointment, personal training sessions, dinner with friends from KL, IKEA. Not to mention the kids. The elder one has fallen ill (again!!!), while the younger is increasingly attached to her mother, which is difficult because then I can't take the load off her.
Oh well.
The balancing act continues.
