Charlize Theron is p-h-a-t (Pretty Hot And Tempting)
The fact that I'm not fully recovered from my cold and sore throat bugs me.
I have to make a concerted effort to be "well", once and for all.
I must admit- I've not been taking my vitamins as dilligently as I would like, and probably not giving my body enough rest that it deserves. So, today I will not run; I will take my vitamins; go to bed early.
My running is suffering but that's a small price to pay.
After my meeting, I went to track yesterday. Coach wasn't there, though. The usual fellas were there and it was good to see Kenny Tan again after a while. He was busy with his church activities. After a warm-up of 2 easy laps and 1 lap of 50 meters fast-50 meters slow, Ah Meng dished out the menu- 2000m at 60% effort. Ronnie, Kenny and I ran in slightly below a 5:00 per km pace. Next up- 8 x 400m. I went with the 1st group, and after 3 repetitions, I knew I haven't recovered properly to complete the session with those fellas. So I stopped. I ran another 2 reps with group 2 (where Ronnie was) before deciding I had enough.
Post track was the usual banter among Ronnie, Azwar, Adam, Cecil and me. By the way I didn't know the great Cecil read my post on my recent 15k race! (In fact I'm not even sure who reads anything that I type) I respect the fella. Maybe I can run as fast as him one day. Wishful thinking...
I don't really know what to expect for this Sunday's MPSJ 10k race. Speaking of which, I measure the course again with the Nissan AD Resort (the station wagon that I'm driving at the moment while waiting to get my car fixed) and this time the odometer showed that the course was about 10.8km, as initially stated by Ronnie! Hiya, I don't know. At any rate these odometers aren't very accurate. Unless we use the device that apparently pm10 has, then using the car's odometer can only provide a rough estimation of the course. Just for once I'd like to see the powers that be in Malaysia organise a race that is exactly the distance. No more, no less.
Anyway I was digressing. Back to the MPSJ race this Sunday- I actually know what to expect. Today is already Wednesday, and I'm still not fully recovered. I couldn't complete my workouts at track yesterday, and my workouts in the past 2 weeks have been far less. I could look at it 2 ways- either this is some sort of unintentional tapering (with some sharpening, i.e. racing the 3k, speed work at track), which may produce an excellent time this Sunday (highly unlikely) OR, I've lost some of my fitness- not overall fitness- but fitness to run 10k at my desired speed- and that I should not expect anything much apart from finishing (hopefully) within a medalling position. I think it is more prudent to expect the latter. I wouldn't want to be raising my expectations and be bitterly disappointed. It is my home run and I want to do well- but circumstances are such that it is difficult for me to run well.
Another thing has been on my mind- I am 31 years old soon. I've been reflecting on my life, my past- family happenings, friends of old, friends of new, previous jobs, and so forth. Career-wise, I think it has not gone well. I've had some painful experiences. Having said that, I'm happy with every other aspects of my life. My cold and sore throat aside, I think I'm at my healthiest ever. I'm extremely happy with my family and personal life. Running and my friends from running- VERY GOOD.
So in summary- career-wise- LOUSY; but other aspects- very very good.
Ok I'd better get back to my work.
