Tapering week
Friday- had a decent race-pace run of 17k.
But, ah...quite a good weekend in terms of sleep. I went to bed early Friday night (around 12am), waking up at 1030am, had a nice brunch, watched Nacho Libre before napping for another 2 hours. I could've gone on sleeping for longer, but I think it would've been overly self-indulgent to do so. Woke up at 4pm, and proceeded to the gym where I ran an easy recovery 6km (I was a tad tired from Friday night's workout). Then, dinner with the folks at USJ. Went to bed at 12am.
Woke up at 930am on Sunday. Wonderful sleep again! Breakfast with the folks, before dropping of the missus at Starhill at 1pm. I looked up to the sky at 1pm and thought- "an excellent opportunity to run". It was very cloudy, and since I was somewhat nearby Kampung Pandan, I headed there for my final interval session before Singapore, which consisted of 2km warm up, 4 mile repeats (3:40 rest), 3.6km warm down, followed by 12 x 100meter strides. Total- 12km.
Went grocery shopping before heading for dinner, and then staying up to watch the Man U-Chelsea game at my apartment. Generally, in the first half, it was 100mph football- fast, frantic, scrappy. with neither side really getting into any proper passing rhythm. Still, Man U managed to take their chance when Wayne Rooney treaded a beautifully weighted pass to Louis Saha, who used Ricardo Carvalho as a "shield" blocking goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini's view, to stroked the ball into the net. In the 2nd half, Chelsea brought in Robben and played with more purpose- they really piled on the pressure with some slick pass-and-move maneuvers and were rewarded with a 2nd half goal. Final result- 1-1, which was probably a fair reflection of the match. Although Chelsea did play better in the 2nd half, apart from the goal, they did not create any real clear-cut chances to truly trouble the Man U defence.
Went to bed at 2am and had trouble waking up this morning. Although a strong cup of coffee woke me up, I'm now suffering from a bad case of Monday Blues. So many things to do, so little time. Sigh. Anyway, there's Singapore to look forward to.
From what I've read, the organisers for Singapore have divided the Race Entry Pack Collection days to 2 sessions- last weekend was for the local runners only, which collection took place at Suntec; next weekend will be for the foreign runners like myself, which will be at Marina Mandarin. I do hope that there will be an expo of some sort, although this was not mentioned in their website. In my past 2 years of running there, going to the expos was part of the Singapore Marathon experience. It will be a pity if there isn't one this year.
Anyway, its my tapering week- less running, more carbo-loading. Training-wise- so far, so good. A couple of tempo runs/time trials, and more strides, and that would be it. On the weight side, I'd prefer to be lighter, although I'm not that heavy to begin with; but the lighter you are, the less weight you carry in the race.
Alright, back to work.

Heya Nezz,
I'm still tapering and hopefully come Sunday I'll have more than enough stored-up energy to run well in Singapore. I'm quite excited! Anyway regardless of what happens this Sunday, I will certainly post my "report" and let you know how it went. Take care.
