Essential Ingredients IX

Pete Pfitzinger's articles are always interesting reads, at least for me. His book "Road racing For Serious Runners" is of great influence to me, and I've followed his proposed training plan. In summary, each distance has different physical requirements (i.e. high Max V02, or high lactate threshold or BOTH), and one trains towards maximising those requirements. That way, you train with specificity and purpose, and not merely log in the mileage mindlessly. Each workout serves a purpose.

In his latest article he talks about developing your own training plan and what you, as a runner wish to accomplish for the year 2007.
