London and Paula
PAULA RADCLIFFE says it is hard to imagine the London Marathon going ahead without her.
The world record-holder will miss next Sunday’s event after failing to recover in time from a foot injury.
And Radcliffe, whose name was first on organiser David Bedford’s list, has been told to have a total rest from running.
She said: “It was a decision that bitterly disappointed me.
“After having to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games, it was what this season was all about for me.
“It’s still really hard to imagine the race going ahead without me but I have had to accept that my foot needs total rest to clear it up. With many more goals and hopefully years of serious running and racing left ahead of me, I don’t want to do anything to jeopardise this.
“I know there will be many more great London races and also big targets to come.
“My mind is already thinking about new goals to replace the ones I missed out on."
