Looks like 4 (or is it 3??) Malaysians have pre-empted our NYC Marathon plans
A little something I read in one of the papers today-
Headline: Four keep Malaysian flag flying in New York
"4 Malaysians will keep Malaysia's flag lying at the 36th edition of the ING NEw York City Marathon today.
They are accountant Ong Swee Chye, his wife Lily S.C Yeoh, 42 and Yusuff Abang Rahmat, 30. All are from Penang except Yusuff who is from Kuala Lumpur.
Ong, 42, who is the financial controller of NTPM Holdings Bhd, said he was a relatively new marathon runner, having taken up the sport about three and a half years ago.
In 2003, he took part in the Singapore Marathon and earlier this year, the Hong Kong Marathon.
In between he participated in several half-marathons, including the PJ Half Marathon.
"To me, the New York Marathon is the biggest and the best and I want to experience this challenge running with about 36,000 runners," he said, adding that he was glad both his and Lily's applications to join the marathon were successful.
Lily, who is a professional will writer, said she took up running to keep her husband company.
"Running together is a a good sport and is definitely good for us as it has improved our relationship," she added.
The couple said they intended to promote the KL Marathon among runners here.
The ING New York marathon is one of the world's great road races, drawing more than 85,000 applicants of which 36,000 are selected.
The race attracts many world-classs professional athletes, not only for the more than US$500,000 prize money, but also for the chance to excel before 2 million cheering spectators and 260 milliom worldwide television viewers.
The marathon, covering 41.8 km, will start on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island, wind through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx and bend back to Manhattan for the finish line in Central Park."
Comments-
The article stated that there are 4 Malaysians participating, but only 3 were named;
The marathon distance is NOT 41.8km!!!
