So another year has come and gone. 2012 is here. Many of us make new year resolutions, promising ourselves to do something, be it to smile more, run higher mileage, eat healthier, spend more time with the family, and so forth. Doomsayers predict the deepening economic crisis, the end of the world. I for one am not the type to make resolutions for the new year; if there is a need to change something at any given point in time, then I will do so. Sometimes it is a conscious decision; sometimes I am forced by the circumstances. As far as I am concerned, I can only predict what lies in store for me in 2012:-
1) General prediction on a month-by-month basis-
We are already in the first week of January. If the last 4.5 years is anything to go by, it has been a mixture of time flying by (very quickly) and time practically dragging by (very slowly). It has to do with my life- work can get pretty stressful- having said that, it can be advantageous to have time dragging by because it gives me the opportunity to solve any outstanding issues and problems that arise in the course of my work. Other times, especially during the weekends, fly by when I am spending time with my loved ones, be it with my wife and daughters and/or parents. It is cliche, but time flies when you're having fun. Work-wise, I expect it to be slow (as in not many new business coming in due to the current economic climate) but busy (due to work on existing matters). It will be a mix of slow days and crazy days.
Anyway, back to my point- it is just over 2 weeks left to Chinese New Year. January will definitely fly by. I will be in Johore to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family and extended family i.e. uncles, aunts, grandparents. I hope that traffic to and fro is not too bad.
For February, it will be a slow-maybe crazy month work-wise (depending on some factors), although there are only 29 days (leap year). March is the school holiday for my children, and I guess that a week-long trip to KL will be on the agenda. April will be similar to February, although there is a long-ish weekend to look forward to i.e. Good Friday on 6 April; in May, I will be climbing Mount Kinabalu; June will be the next school holiday, so another trip to KL; July will be similar to February and April; August is Hari Raya Puasa, i.e. 19th, so there is an additional day of holiday there; September will be similar to February, April and July; October will be Hari Raya Haji on 26th which is a Friday; November will be similar to February, April and July; December will be the festive season.
2) My little girls will continue to grow (obviously!). There will be various challenges they will face at various stages of their lives. This is all part of growing pains. I hope I will be understanding enough to be able to help them negotiate their journey in their respective paths of life. Personally, I would love to have a third child. I love children. We'll see how that goes.
3) I will be continuing with my almost daily runs home from the office. My level of fitness is increasing to the point of wanting to test myself in races, but having checked out the race calendar for Singapore and clicking on the various particular race links, I have found the costs to be prohibitive ($30 upwards). I don't need the t-shirt; I don't need the timing chip; I don't need the goodie bag. I just want to run. I certainly miss the KL races where you pay a relatively small affordable fee to run with the masses. As far as running in Singapore races are concerned, I may just stick to the race I run every year- i.e. the Standard Chartered one, held on the first Sunday of December every year. And if time permits, I will run in races in KL. So, as far as races are concerned, it will take a backseat for as long as I am here.
4) I will continue to be financially disciplined, fully committed towards my financial goals.
So there you have it, my predictions.
Friday is here. My plan is to run home. The weather outside seems good. I had planned on running home yesterday evening and was ready to go, but when I opened up my bag, I found out that I had forgotten to bring my t-shirt, so I took the bus home instead. Today I made sure that I brought my t-shirt!
Have a good weekend everyone.
