Hazy Days, they're bringing me down
I dunno if many of you are aware that the IAAF World Championships is currently being held in Helsinki, Finland. I for one have been following the day-to-day events, paying particular attention to any middle to long distance events. For the complete list of results do visit their website. Of interest to me was the 10,000 meters event. Kenenisa Bekele, as expected, won the men's event in a time of 27:08.33, covering the final 1 km in 2:28. I watched the last 200 meters of the race, and you could really see the top 3 kicking like mad to the finishing line. Although Sileshi Sihine (countryman/compatriot/bridesmaid in the Olympics of Bekele) gave it all he had, ultimately, Bekele's finishing power won him the race. Therefore, the 1-2 position in the Olympics 10,000 meter was repeated at the World Championships. On the women's side, Paula Radcliffe finished in 9th position, in a race that ended in a 1-2-3 for the Ethiopians. Read all about it here. Other notable mentions- the pcoming 3,000 meter steeplechase, where the former Kenyan Saeed Shaheen (world record holder in the event, and now of Qatar) hopes to win it. But he will be closely challenged by Brimin Kipruto and Paul Koech, who finished 1-2 in the same event at last year's Olympics. Shaheen was ineligible to compete for Qatar at last years Olympics because his Qatari citizenship was obtained too late. Bear in mind that Shaheen is regarded as a traitor of some sort because he switched allegianceto compete for Qatar. Too bad it is not shown live here and I can ony rely on Eurosport News, the newpapers and the IAAF site for the latest info.
I don't want to complain too much about the current hazy situation in Malaysia. Seems like we are afflicted with this at least once or twice a year. The excuse is always the same- indiscriminate open burning or the acts of our neighbouring country. Total bullshit. Anyway I don't wanna get myself worked up about it. I can't do anything to change the situation.
Had an activity filled day- headed to Ikea to get my book shelf, then went to the church for my wedding matters, then I delivered some things to a client of Jeanne's, then went for my workout. The day is not ended as yet.
As per my previous post, my running has been done in the gym and today was no different. I ran 15k on the treadmill.
